ATM situation in Canada can be life-threatening for tourists; Canadians are totally unhelpful, unimaginative, lying....

The comments on this blog are astonishing.

So many tourists from Europe, with maestro bank passes, maestro mastercards, Diners club, Visa etc.cannot withdraw ANY money from ATM's in Canada.

An additional nuisance is the totally lying nature of Canadians: in a village, the send you from one cash center to the next, none of them working....until you are back to ATM #1.

The ATM's often show maestro and mastercards logo's - but this is totally misleading: there is no connection with maestro at all, more honest Canadians tell you in private.

In a trading country, entrepreneurial country as well as in a corrupt country, one could easily save himself: propose to someone to internet-bankwire 1000 euros to that person, and then getting Canadian dollars in return for that, plus giving the helper a commission, or 'backsheech' as it is said in many countries - from Egypt to India.

But Canadians:
- refuse to admit that there is no connection with maestro
- refuse to help
- refuse to come up with a solution
- keep on lying about the problem.

Except in currency exchang centers they have never heard of the currency 'euro' either.

So having all Europeans bank cards and credit cards with you: you get money NOWHERE. You cannot continue to travel, not eat, not pay a transport to the airport - it is really a life threatening situation.

Should you ever come across a Canadian in Europe: totally rip him/her off, ask double price, send them on trains in the wrong direction....

....Canadians are the most egoistic, selfish, uncooperative, lying and uninventive folks on earth.

'Destroy!' - uncle Adolf would have said.

Push Canada out of Nato, then bomb and take it....give it to Africa, for example.

Problems with Canadian ATM's: all over the web....

Canada is very backward regarding ATM's - special warning to tourists from Europe

Canadian banks and ATM's of the level of a less developed country - URGENT WARNING for tourists travelling to Canada

With an Europan bankcard and pin, one can withdraw cash from an ATM anywhere in Europe, the US, up to the Middle East.

But not in Canada.

Even if 'maestro' or 'mastercard' is written on the ATM, it won't work usually.

The Canadians in the banks and around ATM's can tell you why: athough there is a sign of 'maestro', there is cooperation with only a very small number of non-Canadian banks, being different per Canadian bank and per ATM.

When not warned by your travel oragnisation, this can lead to huge difficulties.

The problem is denied by as many parties as possible, except Canadians having experience with tourists at ATM's at banks.

Recommended solution: take all your money in CASH with you, in euro's.

Be prepared that most Canadians have never heard about euro and never seen a euro banknote- but currenct exchange offices do recognize them and change.

In terms of financial transactions, Canada is a lowly developed country.

As said, almost over the whole world one can pin with a maestro bank card, but NOT in Canada.

Warn tourists about this.

Another possibility, when you are in need of money in Canada itself, propose to bankwire your money to that person or instution, and that he/they (a bank?) hands you out Canadian dollars as soon as they have received your euro's by bankwiring.
